Presence, the answer to managing power?

‘‘Presence allows us to remain with others and reminds us of the sacredness of every person and moment. ” – Matt Boswell

The beliefs and values of a leader will effectively determine their leadership habits and ultimate character. Character is the link that will allow leadership power to become leadership presence, and ultimately fulfill the essence of leadership. Presence is the healthy use of leadership power. If we have a healthy understanding of power, our actions will result in healthy presence. This will ultimately lead to a healthy presence within different moments of time and setting. This means we are more present in the moments that complete our day. When we are truly present, our mind, heart and hands are in the moment.

Maria Popova says, “Presence is far more intricate and rewarding an art, than productivity.” This is true in today’s distracted world. Our minds, hearts and activities are mostly scattered and produce very few results if we are not intentional and present.

Leadership who is present, engage with their participants, ask questions, listen to what is said and not said. They postpone judgement in order to allow the others in the room to bring forth their authentic self with their creativity, criticisms and clarities. The reality is, we can all only be in one place at a specific moment in time. If we are present, we absorb what that moment wants to offer us.

I end with this question: How can you be more present?

In the last blog, I will share some tools and practical tips to becoming more present.
